    Shure’s Holistic Approach to Employee Mental Health and Wellbeing

    Mental health in the workplace seems to be on every company’s radar these days, but how many take practical steps to ensure their employees’ wellbeing is taken care of? Meaningful workplace transformation requires more than a few motivational posters and the occasional office lunch.

    That’s a fundamental truth that Shure Middle East & Africa deeply understands. With headquarters in Dubai, the company specializes in audio equipment manufacturing – including microphones, wireless systems, headphones, and sophisticated audio accessories – and has long been known for pushing technological boundaries.

    As it celebrates a remarkable 100-year milestone, Shure is now applying that same innovative approach to employee care and benefits. In addition to a competitive salary, pension plans, flexible work arrangements, and generous paid time off, the company has set itself apart with its policy on wellness reimbursement and extensive coverage of mental health sessions.

    “At Shure, we believe in going the extra mile to ensure our employees are well taken care of. Over and above offering the mandated medical coverage, Shure has initiated a distinct employee benefit scheme as part of its wellness program,” shared Yassine Mannai, Associate Director of Sales at Shure Middle East & Africa.

    While many organizations trumpet their commitment to employee wellness and only offer superficial support, Shure has developed a comprehensive Mental Health Benefits Scheme that acknowledges the complex challenges employees face in the workplace. The program provides employees with 12 fully paid care sessions annually – each session can be completed through multiple channels: phone, virtual platforms, or in-person consultations.

    Along with individual counseling, employees can also access a digital library of well-being resources designed to support them in managing stress, improving sleep patterns, and developing healthy life habits.

    Shure’s wellness initiative addresses not only workplace challenges but also real-world everyday struggles. Interpersonal conflicts, parental strain, and family obligations are all considered to be critical components of an employee’s overall wellbeing – thus requiring targeted support.

    “Through this program, Shure employees are now better equipped to handle emotional and mental health challenges, such as burnout, conflict, and family stress, among others” Mannai added.

    Global workplace research consistently demonstrates that there is a growing need for holistic mental health support. In 2022, the McKinsey Health Institute conducted a survey on four thousand employees working in Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar to assess their mental, physical, and emotional health. The numbers were particularly concerning as two- thirds of employees reported experiencing poor mental health, and one in three people suffered burnout symptoms.

    This inevitably reflects on employees’ work and productivity and is directly tied to organizational performance – which prompts employers in the GCC to take proactive actions that can help improve their workforce’s health and morale.

    A recent research by Gartner, Gallup, and Harvard Business Review shows that an organization with high psychological safety has a 27% reduction in turnover, 76% more engagement, and 50% more productivity – making Shure’s approach to employee mental health and wellbeing a strategic imperative for success.

    “Shure understands that a productive employee not only needs to be healthy and physically fit, they also need to be emotionally and mentally fit,” noted Mannai.

    While Shure’s mission has always been about capturing authentic and extraordinary sound, it has now extended to capturing the nuances of employees’ experience, loyalty and satisfaction.

    By embodying corporate responsibility and investing in their employees’ mental health, the audio giant is set to break all records and continue building on innovation momentum – as the company rolls out new cutting-edge products.
